We loved the hotel which used to be a convent making the hotel have a distinctive personality. It is elegant now but you can almost imagine how it must have been when there were nuns. It is no longer austere. The rooms are spacious even the less expensive rooms like we had. We had beautiful rooms with two lovely windows overlooking the courtyard. The bed was so comfortable and linens beautiful. I loved the long closet wall painted in a gorgeous blue which contrasted with elegant red wall paper as a accent. We appreciated how pretty the room was not a bland hotel room. The bathroom was very clean and very new. The staff couldn't be nicer. This hotel has a lot of stairs up to the property so be prepared. They are very up front about this aspect. The doorman will carry your bags to your room and from your room to the street. No problem. Everyone was so friendly yet professional. The breakfast room and the breakfast are very nice. A buffet with lovely choices with nice plates and table settings. The staff is very professional. We had a car and the doorman was very conscientious about making sure there was a street space for us conveniently located across from the hotel. We felt very lucky. There is an important national art and antiquities museum a five minute walk from the hotel. We loved it.

A visit is shaped by human interaction, and from the moment I booked my stay, I felt a connection with this place. The staff, without exception, were kind, patient, and incredibly attentive. Since there isn't a lift, they go above and beyond to ensure your luggage is transported and that you are comfortable. My room was large, facing the courtyard, and benefited from both sunlight and a gentle breeze. Despite having a cold, I slept well. The shower was hot and powerful, and the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was delightful; I often spent 90 minutes there just reading and enjoying the view of the citrus trees and bougainvilleas. It was a lovely walk from the hotel (turn left) into Chiado, Bairro Alto, and then Baixa. Lisbon has changed significantly over the past five years and now boasts a growing population of digital nomads and coffee enthusiasts. While it made me a little sad to see a reduction in authenticity during my visit, there are still plenty of genuine Portuguese establishments and craft indie shops to enjoy. This hotel has become my home away from home, and I plan to return every time I visit friends and family.

Staff and breakfast were outstanding! We unfortunately were unaware of the number of stairs involved which can be problematic to us. As I descended from our room on the floor above the lobby entrance I missed the bottom step causing me to fall on my R knee. It wasn’t serious and the staff were very attentive. It did limit my mobility comfort however. Although the location is wonderful and very charming we didn’t venture far afield during our brief 36 hour stay. We love Lisbon every time we return. I certainly would recommend the York with the inclusion of the accessibility issue.

Breakfast was excellent & offered a good variety. We opted to sit inside as the courtyard was still a bit chilly, though there were blankets available for guests to sit outside in the courtyard. It was a nice touch, that we only learned of on our last day, that there are complimentary drinks & pastries as an afternoon snack. The hotel upgraded our room, without our asking, to a room with a sitting room. The hotel also gave us wine & dried fruits to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. Really loved the decor.

Lovely classic hotel. Spacious, clean, atmospheric, quiet, and great staff. I especially like powerful & hot shower and comfy bed. Nearest train station Santos is just 3-5 minutes away and various buses and trams are available so easy to access city centre. Also we found great restaurants and cafes around the hotel, such a lovely, cultural, sophisticated area. Highly recommended.
