The staff at the hotel are wonderful, so helpful and cheerful. We really appreciate how they made us feel at home. I have stayed here twice and it is a great place, I can recommend!

Breakfast in York House Lisboa Hotel

We loved the hotel which used to be a convent making the hotel have a distinctive personality. It is elegant now but you can almost imagine how it must have been when there were nuns. It is no longer austere. The rooms are spacious even the less expensive rooms like we had. We had beautiful rooms with two lovely windows overlooking the courtyard. The bed was so comfortable and linens beautiful. I loved the long closet wall painted in a gorgeous blue which contrasted with elegant red wall paper as a accent. We appreciated how pretty the room was not a bland hotel room. The bathroom was very clean and very new. The staff couldn't be nicer. This hotel has a lot of stairs up to the property so be prepared. They are very up front about this aspect. The doorman will carry your bags to your room and from your room to the street. No problem. Everyone was so friendly yet professional. The breakfast room and the breakfast are very nice. A buffet with lovely choices with nice plates and table settings. The staff is very professional. We had a car and the doorman was very conscientious about making sure there was a street space for us conveniently located across from the hotel. We felt very lucky. There is an important national art and antiquities museum a five minute walk from the hotel. We loved it.

Staff all incredibly helpful and friendly. The central courtyard was a delight. A real sanctuary from the heat and bustle of the city. Breakfasts were excellent. Fairly central location, yet quite a peaceful spot. Rustic charm in keeping with its heritage.

Beautiful historical property, charming and elegant. Absolutely gorgeous architecture. I loved most everything about my stay here. My room was spacious, had good AC and it was probably the quietest hotel I've ever been to. My room was on the side where there's no construction work though, I did hear that during the day while passing through the lobby. By night it felt completely peaceful and quiet. The staff was nice an helpful. I enjoyed the area it is situated in a lot because it was way quieter, less crowded and more secluded than more central location which I originally planned to stay at (glad I didn't, it proved to be way noisier and overwhelming with people). It is easy to get by even by walking though. If I am ever back to Lisbon, I'd love to stay here again.

Facade/entrance in York House Lisboa Hotel

This is a gorgeous property, immaculately maintained, with a beautiful collection of upholstered furniture, art and antiques that contrast with pristine white walls and modern bathrooms. The oasis of peace and tranquility that is the leafy green outdoor terrace is memorable, and makes walking up about 100 steps from the street well worth it (they will help you with your luggage, and you can get a nice, cold Sagres beer there to reward yourself). The hallways and rooms are full of character, and there are several well-appointed common areas for lounging and reading as well. The breakfast room is so elegant, and we looked forward to the incredible buffet spread every morning (actually preferred the carafe coffee to the automated machine coffee here). The location is a little further away from the main squares than we had anticipated, but we quickly figured out how to get on the frequent and inexpensive buses and trams within a couple of blocks. We also appreciated the good-humoured and professional staff.

Hotel is very well run and built around a really pretty courtyard where you can eat breakfast. Lovely traditional style decor and friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast had a very good range of options. Price was reasonable. There was an unprecedented power outtage when we were there and they dealt with all the questions that raised brilliantly and with great charm! Good hanging space and free water.

Breakfast in York House Lisboa Hotel

The room was quite large and had big windows which let a lot of natural light in which was great. The bed was large and very comfortable. We really appreciated the coffee machine in the room. The courtyard area is gorgeous so we enjoyed eating our breakfast down there. We were able to park our car right outside the hotel for free which was a great bonus (note this is not always available). The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. The location is good as it’s only a short walk into the main downtown area but far enough to be a little bit on the quieter side. There are lots of nice cafes and restaurants around here too.

A visit is shaped by human interaction, and from the moment I booked my stay, I felt a connection with this place. The staff, without exception, were kind, patient, and incredibly attentive. Since there isn't a lift, they go above and beyond to ensure your luggage is transported and that you are comfortable. My room was large, facing the courtyard, and benefited from both sunlight and a gentle breeze. Despite having a cold, I slept well. The shower was hot and powerful, and the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was delightful; I often spent 90 minutes there just reading and enjoying the view of the citrus trees and bougainvilleas. It was a lovely walk from the hotel (turn left) into Chiado, Bairro Alto, and then Baixa. Lisbon has changed significantly over the past five years and now boasts a growing population of digital nomads and coffee enthusiasts. While it made me a little sad to see a reduction in authenticity during my visit, there are still plenty of genuine Portuguese establishments and craft indie shops to enjoy. This hotel has become my home away from home, and I plan to return every time I visit friends and family.

Apart from the entrance being a little confusing (what looks like the reception off the street isn't: you have to go up the steps), this hotel did not disappoint. From the lovely secluded courtyard and friendly staff to the delightful rooms and wide breakfast selection, this hotel was absolutely perfect for our needs. It's a bit of a walk into the old city, but that's not a problem - just something to be mindful of according to your needs. We were staying when there was a Southern European electricity blackout and the staff could not have been more accommodating: some guests who had checked out returned to the hotel and were accommodated, they called in extra staff, found a seemingly endless supply of candles, and served drinks and snacks. It's a beautiful, historic hotel and the staff are clearly proud to work there. We would definitely stay there again if returning to Lisbon.

Great location, close to the busy areas yet quiet enough during evening / night. Large and charming room with comfy bed. The long breakfast service gave a flexibility that we also appreciated.
